Eastern Promenade Trail
Casco Bay views, a paved promenade, and a small off-leash beach
About this park
A paved 2.1-mile waterfront trail along Casco Bay, dropping off the East End hill past the marina and the railroad to a small dog beach near East End Beach. Most of the route is leashed, but the lawn and beach above the marina include posted off-leash hours.
Amenities
Eastern Promenade Trail reviews
What visitors consistently sayReviewers rave about the bay views, the fetch-friendly beach below the bluff, and the easy loop that links up with the Back Cove Trail for a longer walk. The trail surface and grade make it usable for senior dogs and people who want a flat path with a real view.
Locals walk this stretch like a town green, and the dog crowd is dense at the off-leash hours. Tourists from the cruise terminal mix in midday in summer, which is great for socially confident dogs and rough on dogs that need space.
Best for
Before you go
Off-leash hours on the Eastern Prom lawn run dawn to 9am and 5pm to dusk; outside that window, leash up or stick to the paved trail. Cruise-ship days swell foot traffic in summer, so reactive dogs do better on a weekday morning.
