About this park

Franciscan Park (also called Bell Street Dog Park) is the largest fenced off-leash space inside Providence proper, a sloped hillside lot on the Olneyville and West End side of the city with heavy tree cover and a paved walking path along the perimeter. The yard is one shared run rather than split by size, so small dogs share space with the rest. The grass is mostly worn to dirt and dust through dry stretches, and the lower fence line runs close to the highway, but the volunteer crew keeps water, bags, and a stash of donated tennis balls on hand.

Before you go

Owners with very small or skittish dogs sometimes prefer the divided yards at Waterman Street, since Franciscan is one shared run. Parking is street-only and tightest during weekday rush; weekend mornings clear out the easiest.
